Ammar Kanaan joined Terminal Investment Ltd (TiL) as Chief Executive Officer in April 2018, following three decades of leadership roles in the transport sector. TiL is the container terminals arm of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, part of the MSC Group of companies.
As CEO Ammar oversees a large and geographically-diversified portfolio of terminal investments including wholly-owned and -operated businesses and joint ventures with other companies. TiL invests in and manages over 60 terminals in five continents, including at seven of the world’s 25 busiest ports by volume. TiL handles over 34 million container moves a year worldwide and has facilities in Valencia.
Before TiL, Ammar was the founder and Chairman of International Port Management (IPM), an innovative port operator and facility service provider that invested in research, development and technology to address the productivity and efficiency challenges of the industry. Prior to IPM, he lead the work of a consulting firm IBI Group in Boston, Massachusetts where he provided services for public and private organisations across the US and abroad.
Ammar has published over 30 papers and is an experienced speaker on topics such as transport systems, port operations, public private partnership and transport policy. He was awarded a Master in Science in Transportation degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) after graduating first in class from the American University of Beirut with a Bachelor in Engineering degree.
