Ignacio Gimenez

Nacho Gimenez has been a member of the BP Ventures team since May 2017 and has led the Europe and Middle East team since November 2018.

As Managing Director of BP Ventures, Nacho is responsible for equity  investments in technology start-ups and for collaborations with innovation groups such as OGCI, Launchpad and a number of BP’s corporate partners.

During his time in Ventures, the team has made investments that have taken BP into digital power markets, with a strong focus on sustainability and low carbon technologies. Nacho is passionate about using innovation to reduce the environmental impact of the energy sector and is driven to support the re-invention of BP.

Nacho joined BP in 2001 as a chemical engineer, and worked in refining before moving to trading to support the commercial interface between traders and refinery in Iberia. In 2007 he joined the origination team in London developing new trading and financing contracts in the North Sea, Northern Europe and the Mediterranean. In 2010 he started managing BP’s trading relationships with North Africa, where he created strong relationships with new energy players in Egypt, Algeria and Morocco.

A Spanish and British citizen, Nacho grew up in Valencia and in 2000 gained an honours degree in Chemical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. In 2005, he completed an MBA with UNED in Spain, and in 2009 a further Corporate Finance programme with London Business School. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, spending time with his family and training for summer triathlons.

Nacho is a board member of Finite Resources, Grid Edge, Voltaware and Fotech.
