Elected to the UK Direct Marketing Association’s Roll of Honour in 2008, Alastair Tempest has been the Director General of the Federation of European Direct and Interactive Marketing (FEDMA) since 1997.
Alastair started his career with Independent Television in London. He moved to Brussels in 1980 to work for advertising, setting up the European Advertising Tripartite to lobby the European Commission and European Parliament.
He joined Reader’s Digest in 1992 and headed up the European office in Brussels. He then moved to the DM association, which has as its mission to promote, and protect direct and interactive marketing, which he headed up until 1997. In that year a new, larger, association, FEDMA, was set up and he became its Director General. He has lead up many projects for FEDMA, and has been the Chairman of the Pan-European Education and Advisory Committee since 2001. He writes and lectures extensively on direct marketing issues.
He is on the advisory editorial boards of International Journal of Database Marketing and the International Journal of Integrated Marketing Communications. He was on the editorial board of the International Journal of Advertising from 1986 – 2009.
