Gary Shapiro is president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, the U.S. trade association representing more than 2,000 consumer electronics companies, and owner and producer of the world’s gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies, the International CES®. CEA helps to grow the industry through unparalleled market research, cutting-edge industry standards, vibrant member events and robust legislative collaboration.

The many highlights of Gary’s career include guiding the industry in its successful transition to HDTV, spearheading the effort to obtain the cut-off date for analog broadcasting and leading the home recording manufacturers’ battle to preserve the legality of recording technology. Gary has also testified before Congress on technology and business issues more than 20 times.

Gary is the author of CEA’s New York Times bestsellers “Ninja Innovation: The Ten Killer Strategies of the World’s Most Successful Businesses” (Harper Collins, 2013) and “The Comeback: How Innovation will Restore the American Dream” (Beaufort, 2011). Through these books and television appearances, as well as editorials in publications including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and The Washington Post, Gary proudly extolls the importance of innovation in the U.S. economy.

Gary serves a member of the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Technology Council and the Economic Club of Washington, and sits on the State Department's Advisory Committee on International Communications and Information Policy.

Prior to joining CEA, Gary was an associate at the law firm of Squire Sanders. He has also served as an assistant to a member of Congress on Capitol Hill. He earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate with a double major in economics and psychology from Binghamton University.
