Bovey Tracey Lifesaving Club enhanced their ever growing reputation by grabbing a haul of medals at the National Lifesaving Championships held in Sheffield last weekend.

First up were the Club's U17 team competing in the first ever National SERC competition run by the Royal Lifesaving Society.
The team led by captain Seb Lancaster had to perform a variety of
rescues in an incident that was not known to them beforehand. Under
Seb's instructions team members Rachel Twose, Holly Willing and Lee
Willing, competed against Clubs from all over the Country, and came
away with the Gold Medal. The Clubs adult teams Sue Hutchings, Alice
James, Jen Huntington, Chantelle Jessop, Nikki Hutchings, Laura Glover and Jake Crosby came 8th and 15th in their event.

The following day was the Great Britain National Lifesaving event held at International Swimming Pool, Ponds Forge. The competition comprises of an unknown aquatic incident, followed by a life support initiative test, a timed rope throw, and a timed swim and tow. Having won their respective Devon and South West regional rounds the team took on the best of the Country's rest. The South West team comprising Ian Hutchings, Nikki Hutchings, Sally Kingdon and Seb Lancaster, won the silver medal in the National SERC competition, only 2 points behind
the West Midlands, but 33 points ahead of Ireland.

Senior Girls
Laura Glover and Holly Willing won gold in the life support test and
finished 8th overall. Seb Lancaster and Jake Crosby in the senior boys
won silver in the Aquatic incident, silver in the rope throw and
finished 2nd overall. Ladies Individual Nikki Hutchings a bronze in
the aquatic incident and 7th overall. Masters Sally Kingdon silver in
the swim and tow, bronze in the aquatic and life support, and 3rd
overall, Sue Hutchings won gold in the aquatic incident, gold in the
rope throw and 2nd overall.

But the best was yet to come, Bovey Coach Ian Hutchings who is also the Great Britain U19 Lifesaving coach, was next up. An expected buzz went around the Pool and the balcony was packed to watch Ian who has won the National title on no fewer than 15 occasions. He was not to disappoint. His aquatic incident was the stuff of legends and Ian scored more points than any other competitor in any category to once again claim the Great Britain title.

The results are a testament to the dedication of the Club and the Pool committee and are made even more special by the fact that the pool is only open for 5 months of the year, and leading up to the Championships the team trained at Middlemoor, Exeter and Finlake.
